Every 90 minutes there is bus service from Nellore RTC bus stand. By taxi, it takes about 90 minutes.

A landmark to the Ashram is the NR Colony bus stand (close to Basavanagudi). The Ashram is one furlong (1/8 mile) from the bus stand.

Please see below for directions to the Ashram. The Sri Narasimha Swamy Temple is a major landmark when asking for directions after Penubarthi. Penusila is also known as Penchalakona.

FLIGHT, TRAIN, BUS SCHEDULES
Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, is the closest city to fly into to get to the Ashram which is in Andra Pradesh (directly North of Tamil Nadu).

Retreat accommodations are 12′ x 15′ rooms with 2 single beds, bedding and attached baths, with solar-heated water. You may want to bring a top sheet or blanket, and a bath towel as they are not provided with the rooms. Men and women will be housed separately; this also applies to married couples. Please bring laundry soap, clothes pins & rope for a clothesline, & all bathroom supplies to the Ashram as there is no convenience store nearby. You may also wish to bring some basic cleaning supplies to maintain the cleanliness of your room.
3 delicious, sattvic (pure), vegetarian Indian food are served daily. During retreats, fresh fruit may be available for purchase. Please contact us about any dietary restrictions and we will do our best to meet them.
Please Note: Eating or drinking is not allowed in the Yagna Shala or Temple. If you need to eat or drink something (this includes water), please step outside.
Due to the Indian government’s increased security procedures, all foreign visitors are required to bring their original passports to the ashram. If possible, please make a photocopy of your passport and Indian visa, with Indian Immigration Entry-date stamped page (if possible), prior to coming to the ashram. This will save time at registration, as we will need to make photocopies upon your arrival at the ashram.
India requires a VISA before arrival into the country. Check your local Consulate office for details on what is required and what are the conditions. It is best to save lots of time to process your VISA and to gather all necessary documents.
Make zerox copies of all your important documents & bring extra photos for any legal documents that may be needed while in India.
There are no banking facilities in the ashram or the nearby village. Please bring enough Indian Rupee for your entire stay at the Ashram.
ATM machines are the fastest and easiest way to change money and also provide a good exchange rate. They are readily available in large and medium-sized cities such as Chennai and Nellore.
Traveler’s checks and cash can be easily changed at a Money Exchange, such as in Chennai, and also at a bank- although there are often long wait lines at the banks.
COMMUNICATIONS & INTERNET
There is an internet room which is available most hours of the day, however the signal is often weak and sometimes down. There is a nominal flat rate of 100 Rupees/day.
A SIM card may be able to be arranged when you arrive at the ashram with one of the Ashram Drivers, however Cell Phone coverage is not reliable.
INSURANCE & HEALTH
You may wish to purchase Flight Insurance or Health Insurance before leaving your country, and bring all necessary Health supplements and medications.
You can visit your local Travel Health Center for any vaccinations you may wish to get. Malaria or Antibiotics can be purchased easily at any pharmacy (in a major city) or you can find Natural Medicines at Ayurvedic dispensaries.
For your safety, as Amma’s ashram is located in a remote and dense forest, while staying as a guest at Amma’s Penusila Ashram, You are required to remain on premises and within the ashram at all times. If for any reason you would like to leave the ashram, you are required to speak with one of the ashram staff and the retreat coordinator; they will be happy to assist you.
The ashram is located in a remote forest. Taxis are not available unless prearranged by you or the ashram staff. There are no banks, and the ashram does not provide banking services. Also kindly note, that photography, video and/or audio recording are not permitted at Amma’s Penusila Ashram.
All of the windows in the devotees’ quarters are covered with screens. No tents (free standing) are allowed inside the rooms or outside on the ashram grounds. There are also no hooks to hang a mosquito net (nor are you permitted to install your own). One alternative that has worked well is sold by REI and is called The Bug Hut Two, which fits directly on top of your bed. Also, please bring an unscented repellent.
