Mukkoti Vaikunta Ekadashi

January 13th, 2022 marks the auspicious occasion of Mukkoti Vaikunta Ekadashi, which will be observed at AMMA’s Sri Srinivasa Saligrama temple enshrInes where more than 25,000 sacred Saligrama stones, which are the conscIous, living embodiment of Lord Maha Vishnu Himself. For all of us struggling in the world, and even those drowning in an ocean of life’s problems, to merely have a single glimpse of Sri Saligrama Srinivasa’s enchanting smile on this day is enough to erase mountains of negative karma and eradicate hardships from our life.

On Vaikunta Ekadashi, also known as Mokshada Ekadashi day, devotees keep a fast, recite hymns and Mantras dedicated to Lord Vishnu and perform puja. Ekadashi Tithi, Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month is of great significance for Lord Vishnu devotees. It is also referred to as Mokshada Ekadashi. It is named Vaikunta, because it is believed that the doors to Lord Vishnu’s heavenly abode, Vaikunta, remain open on this day. Out of all the Ekadashi days (11th day of the Lunar fortnight), the one during Shukla Paksha, Margashirsha or Agrahayana month is significant. Observing a fast on this day is deemed equal to fasting on the rest of the 24 Ekadashis in the year.

Lord Shiva has stated to the Goddess Parvati, that observing Vaikunta Ekadashi can bestow moksha or enlightenment, and on this day we are able to enter through the doors to Vaikuntha itself—it is a day the holds the secret to self-realization. Besides observing a fast, devotees perform Shri Vishnu puja, chant hymns and recite prayers. On this day person can rid himself of the burden of his wrongdoings and attain salvation by keeping a vrat on this day. Hence the name Mokshada (where Moksha means salvation). Also, it is said that the doors (Vaikunta Dwara) to Vaikunta (Lord Vishnu’s heavenly abode) remain open on this day.

Throughout the day at AMMA’s Srinivas Saligrama temple, a number of extremely powerful pujas and ceremonies will be performed. Sponsoring these ceremonies is equivalent to performing them with your own hands. See below to learn more about how you can participate and receive the blessings of this special day!
