Her Holiness’s Maha Shivaratri Message
The Glory of Lord Shiva
We can begin to understand the Glory of Lord Shiva when come to know His unbounded love, infinite compassion and endless Grace. He is revered as Maha Dev, the Greatest of the Devatas, and Bolenath, the Lord who is easily pleased. The Vedas also go on to explain that the Lord has one extreme addiction. What affliction could possible take root in the heart of the Almighty? The answer is that the Lord cannot control His habit to help those in need and to rush to the aid of the devout.
The essence of Shiva worship is that in all living and non-living entities, Ishvara (Lord Shiva) is present as the all-pervading Spirit, the infinite, divine power that is one with the entire creation.
Lord Shiva is both with form and is beyond all forms. He is worshipped in the Shiva Lingam as the Light of all lights and the indweller of every heart. Since time immemorial, both in India and around the world, the Lord has been worshipped by Rudra Abhishekam—the devotional bathing of the Shiva Lingam with various auspicious substances while chanting the sacred Vedic Hymn, Srī Rudram. Performing Rudra Homam, a very powerful sacred Vedic fire ceremony that burns lifetimes of negative karmas, is another way to venerate Lord Shiva.
Maha Shivaratri at Manidweepa
During this year’s Maha Sivaratri, the Great Lord, Maha Dev will be worshipped at Manidweepa in the very auspicious form of the 5-faced Marakatam Jade Lingam, which has been enlivened by the performance of two Ati Rudram ceremonies.
From early in the morning until the late hours of night, Lord Shiva will be worshipped through a number of very traditional and devotional ways. Both Sri Rudra Homam as well as Sri Rudra Abhishekam will be performed to promote worldwide harmony and healing through individual peace, prosperity and spiritual elevation.
